Decide Whether to Replace, Repair or Migrate
A discontinued model does not automatically require immediate migration. Equally, another unit of the same model may only postpone an existing support problem.

Verify the Restoration Path Before Buying Hardware

Confirm whether it has been installed, repaired or repackaged, and request available production and storage information. Older production dates do not automatically make a unit unsuitable, but they also do not establish acceptable condition.

Ask what the test covered.
A power-on check is different from testing the functions your application requires. For a PLC, relevant areas may include the communication interfaces or I/O used by the system. For an HMI, they may include the display, touch response, communication ports and project-transfer capability.
The test report should identify the unit, date, scope and limitations. A functional test does not independently prove authenticity or guarantee remaining service life.
Agree on Acceptance Before Shipment
Define the order so that receiving staff can compare the delivery against a clear requirement.
