Comment sauvegarder une ancienne IHM Pro-face avant sa panne
Table des matières
A file named “backup” is not enough. You need to know which machine it belongs to, whether it matches the installed application, and what it leaves out.
This guide covers conventional panels programmed with GP-Pro EX and older units using GP-PRO/PB III. Windows-based industrial PCs and other software environments require their own recovery procedures.
Start by Identifying the HMI and Its Software
Before connecting a computer, photograph the nameplate and record:
- Complete model number, including suffixes and hardware revision
- Machine identification and location
- Programming software and available version information
- Installed project name and date, where accessible
- Communication interfaces and connected PLC model
- External storage currently installed
- Authorized access credentials and the person responsible for them
Ask the machine builder for the original project, associated files, and software requirements. Keep that package alongside a fresh backup from the operating panel. An old engineering file may predate changes made during commissioning or maintenance.
With GP-Pro EX, Display Unit Information can retrieve system, driver, project, and screen information from the connected HMI. Record this before choosing the backup method. Pro-face Transfer Tool settings

Decide What the Backup Must Preserve
Treat the recovery package as several related items.
| Backup item | But | Que vérifier |
|---|---|---|
| Engineering project | Editing screens and maintaining the application | Correct software, target model, and application revision |
| Memory Loader backup, where supported | Transferring the captured application through external storage | Compatible target hardware and loader requirements |
| Retained operating data | Preserving relevant values and histories | Storage location and supported backup/restore procedure |
| External storage files | Preserving recipes, logs, and other application files | Complete required folders and readable contents |
| Recovery records | Reconnecting and commissioning the replacement | Communication settings, cable details, credentials, and test procedure |
An HMI backup does not replace a separate backup of the connected PLC program or drive parameters.
Also distinguish project definitions from current operating values. A recipe structure in the engineering project does not, by itself, prove that the latest production recipe values have been preserved.
Prepare a Controlled Maintenance Window
Plan for loss of operator access and possible interruption of HMI communication during maintenance. Put the machine in a safe, controlled state before entering offline or loader modes.
Use the transfer connection specified for the exact model. A connector’s shape alone does not identify its function or establish cable compatibility.
Before starting:
- Confirm the intended HMI, especially when several panels share a network.
- Create a dated backup folder for that machine.
- Ensure stable power throughout the operation.
- Obtain the required authorized passwords.
- Check the direction of every transfer command.
Receive or upload means collecting data from the panel. Send or download means writing data to it. Accidentally sending a project can change the application and, under certain conditions, erase backup memory.

Method 1: Receive the Project with GP-Pro EX
For a supported GP-Pro EX panel, use the Transfer Tool’s Receive Project function to save the installed project to the computer as a new .prx file.
A practical sequence is:
- Open a compatible version of the Transfer Tool.
- Configure the supported connection and confirm the target panel.
- Choose Receive Project.
- Select a new destination and descriptive filename.
- Provide authorized credentials if requested.
- Wait for successful completion and record any messages.
The Transfer Tool can be installed separately from the full editor. However, checking and editing the received project requires an appropriate engineering environment. Pro-face Transfer Tool settings
Then verify the associated files. Pro-face’s receive-process documentation specifically describes saving CF/SD DATA et FILE contents when the corresponding card folder is configured. Do not assume this proves that every external file or retained value has been captured. How Receive Works
Preserve the received file unchanged. Open a working copy for inspection, particularly if a newer editor proposes converting the project.
Method 2: Use Memory Loader on Supported Models
Memory Loader provides another route for capturing an application through supported external storage.
Two similarly named PC functions have different purposes:
- Create Boot Data prepares the loader used to transfer between the HMI and external storage.
- Create Backup File packages the project already selected on the computer. It does not capture the currently installed application by itself.
The loader also provides a function for creating a project file from supported backup data. Memory Loader settings
For the supported panel and media combination:
- Prepare dedicated storage using the documented format and capacity requirements.
- Create the appropriate boot data and preserve the required root-folder structure.
- Start Memory Loader using the model-specific procedure.
- Select Upload to capture the panel’s application.
- Enter the authorized transfer password when requested.
- Wait for completion, exit correctly, and copy the resulting files to the backup archive.
Pro-face documents uploading to a .cml backup and subsequently converting it into a project on the computer. Its illustrated CF-card procedure includes resetting the display to start the loader, so this must be scheduled around machine operation. Panel-to-computer Memory Loader procedure
Memory Loader is not universal. Pro-face lists unsupported configurations, model-specific requirements, and hardware revision restrictions. A successful upload does not establish that the backup will run on any replacement HMI. Memory Loader restrictions

Older GP-PRO/PB III Panels Need a Different Approach
For legacy GP-PRO/PB III projects, Pro-face describes this upload path:
Project Manager → Project → Transfer → Transfer → Receive
The critical limitation is the message “No upload information.” Pro-face states that the project cannot be uploaded when the required upload information is absent. In that situation, locate the original engineering backup through the OEM, integrator, or maintenance archive. Do not assume that a functioning screen can always yield an editable project. Pro-face legacy GP upload FAQ
Document the exact error and preserve the working panel. Factory initialization, speculative downloads, and password guessing do not recover missing engineering information.
Photographs of screens and settings can help later reconstruction, but they are not a restorable application backup.
Preserve SRAM and Other Operating Data Separately
Check whether the application uses backup memory for data that matters to recovery.
For applicable CF/SD-equipped models, Pro-face documents an offline Transfer from SRAM to CF/SD procedure. The documented CF example produces ZD00001.bin in the card’s sram folder.
Two restrictions matter:
- A new SRAM backup can overwrite the existing backup on that card.
- Restoration can fail if the project’s use of backup memory has changed since the backup was taken.
Archive the existing file before making another backup, and keep each SRAM snapshot paired with its matching project revision. Backing up SRAM before project transfer
Also inventory recipe files, production logs, and application-specific exports. Confirm where each is stored and how it is restored.
If the application uses GP-Pro EX User ID security, review the separate Receiving Security Data function. The manual identifies it as a USB/LAN operation for User ID mode. Store recovered security information with restricted access.
Verify the Backup Before Calling It Complete
Use three levels of verification.
1. Check the files
Confirm that the operation completed, the expected files exist, and copied archives remain readable. Record the date, source panel, software version, and any unresolved omissions.
Keep copies in separate storage locations, including one protected from routine modification.
2. Check the project
Open a copy in the appropriate editor. Review the selected display model, representative screens, communication configuration, scripts, and required external resources.
A project that opens successfully is useful evidence, but it does not prove that a replacement panel will operate the machine correctly.
3. Test recovery on compatible spare hardware
Where practical, perform a documented restoration test on a compatible spare, initially isolated from production communication.
Check screen navigation, application startup, required files, and retained data. Test communication and operator commands later under an approved commissioning procedure, with hazardous motion controlled.
If screens load but PLC communication fails, use the recorded settings to investigate. Kwoco’s Pro-face HMI communication troubleshooting guide covers related driver, address, and connection checks.
Questions fréquemment posées
Often, a supported GP-Pro EX panel can provide its installed project through Receive Project or Memory Loader. Legacy GP-PRO/PB III equipment has additional limitations, including missing upload information. Confirm the software family first.
Possibly, if the panel still runs and a supported transfer connection remains accessible. A failed touchscreen alone does not establish whether communication is available. Recovery depends on the actual fault, model, access settings, and required interaction.
Only if the model supports the intended USB storage workflow. Some older panels require other media or a computer transfer connection. A USB connector does not guarantee Memory Loader support.
Follow the exact model’s maintenance procedure. Where the panel remains operational, preserve recoverable data before maintenance that could affect retention. Battery replacement does not substitute for a verified recovery package.

Connect the Backup Plan to Replacement Planning
Before ordering a spare, confirm more than display size. Compare the complete model number, supply requirements, mounting dimensions, communication ports, software support, and backup restoration path.
For a replacement inquiry, provide the nameplate photograph, installed model, required interfaces, and whether you have a verified project or loader backup. You can use Kwoco’s Pro-face HMI range as a starting point for model-specific availability discussions.
Arrange any required project conversion and commissioning work before the original panel becomes unusable.
