Weintek HMI Data Logging: Save Daily Production and Modbus Records
Inhaltsverzeichnis
The distinction matters at shift change. A trend may show that the machine ran all afternoon, but the production supervisor still needs a reliable total, a date and a file that opens on another computer.
This guide covers EasyBuilder Pro applications. Storage formats, synchronization and available controls vary by HMI series, so check the exact panel model before copying settings from another project.
Decide what one record should mean
A process log and a daily production report answer different questions.
| Record | Typical contents | Suitable collection approach |
|---|---|---|
| Process sample | Temperature, pressure, speed, machine state | Periodic sampling |
| Completed batch | Batch identifier, accepted quantity, rejects | Snapshot when the batch closes |
| Shift summary | Shift identifier, opening and closing counters | Snapshot at the defined shift boundary |
| Daily production summary | Production date, good count, reject count | Calculated totals captured after the period closes |
These are design examples, not predefined Weintek report templates.
For process monitoring, a row might mean “the values observed at this time.” For production reporting, it should mean something more precise: “the final quantities assigned to this completed shift.”
Define when the production day ends. A line running from 07:00 to 07:00 crosses midnight, so a calendar-date file alone cannot identify its production day correctly.

Keep production counting in the controller
As a design recommendation, count machine events in the PLC and let the HMI record the resulting totals. Polling a rapidly changing sensor bit over Modbus is a poor substitute for counting each event where it occurs.
A cumulative counter can support production calculations:
Period production = Closing counter − Opening counterFor example, an opening count of 120,000 and a closing count of 128,450 gives 8,450 units, provided the counter did not reset or roll over during that period.
Do not sum every sampled value of a cumulative counter. That counts the same production repeatedly.
Where counters reset at shift change, preserve the completed totals before resetting the live counters. A practical design is to maintain a separate completed-shift record containing the shift identifier, quantities and sequence number. Keep it stable while the HMI retrieves it.
If the HMI can remain offline across several shift changes, one snapshot is insufficient. The controller or another persistent system needs enough queued records to cover that interruption. The exact retention and acknowledgement logic belongs in the application design.
Configure Data Sampling around a verified data set
In EasyBuilder Pro, open Data/History → Data Sampling → New. Select the source device, addresses and formats, then choose periodic sampling or a bit-triggered mode. EasyBuilder Pro V6.10.01, Chapter 8, pages 8-2–8-4.
Before logging a Modbus value, verify its register offset, signedness, width, word order and scale against the device map. A plausible screen reading is not enough; compare it with the source device at several known values.
Use meaningful field names and document units. Six months later, a column named Temperature_C is easier to interpret than one named Value3.
Watch the width of each field
For an illustrative contiguous holding-register block:
| Relative register position | Field | Format | Registers occupied |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | Machine state | Unsigned 16-bit | 1 |
| 1–2 | Total good count | Unsigned 32-bit | 2 |
| 3–4 | Total reject count | Unsigned 32-bit | 2 |
| 5–6 | Process temperature | 32-Bit-Gleitkomma | 2 |
These are relative positions, not addresses to paste into a driver. Enter the actual starting address according to the selected Modbus driver’s convention.
A wrong field width can misalign everything that follows. Validate the resulting file, not just the configuration dialog.
When the required registers are scattered
Direct non-contiguous sampling is conditional. WeintekUSA’s documented method requires supported drivers, cMT X hardware and EasyBuilder Pro 6.08.01.350 or later. It also describes transferring values into HMI memory as an alternative when the feature is unavailable. WeintekUSA: non-contiguous data sampling.
If you use intermediate memory, define when those values become valid. Copying several registers through separate operations does not automatically create a simultaneous snapshot. For a completed production record, a stable source block is easier to verify than a collection of counters that keeps changing during acquisition.

Choose an interval that serves the report
For one continuously sampled group:
- One sample every 10 seconds produces 8,640 rows per day.
- One sample every second produces 86,400 rows per day.
Actual file size depends on the fields, storage format and overhead. Measure it with a representative trial rather than estimating capacity from register payload alone.
Fast sampling is useful only when the source changes quickly enough and the communication path can support it. Logging the same slowly refreshed measurement ten times does not provide ten independent measurements.
For completed batches or shifts, use a deliberate trigger sequence. Prepare the record first, then request sampling. Avoid a short pulse that may disappear between HMI polls.
Weintek supports resetting a trigger bit after sampling, but that action should not be treated as proof that a CSV has been exported or an external archive has committed the record.
Configure historical storage separately from the display
Enable historical saving and select a destination supported by the panel.
The manual describes daily yyyymmdd.dtl files for eMT, iE, XE, mTV and iP series. Its cMT/cMT X section uses different history and synchronization settings, including .db handling. Follow the relevant series section rather than assuming every panel creates the same daily file.
Set retention deliberately. The HMI should hold enough history to survive the expected collection delay, while an independent archive should preserve records for the required business period.
On cMT/cMT X systems, review external-storage synchronization. The manual warns that missing media and certain file-rotation conditions can lead to loss of earlier records. Reinserting a USB drive later does not guarantee complete recovery.
Include storage status in the operator workflow. A missing drive should be visible before someone needs yesterday’s report.
Export a file that the production team can use
Native history and CSV export are separate stages. In a documented cMT3072 example, WeintekUSA confirms that saving samples to USB produces a .db file; it recommends the Backup object for CSV export.
For an initial export:
- Add the appropriate Backup object.
- Select Historical data sampling as its source.
- Choose the correct Data Sampling object index.
- Select a supported destination and CSV format.
- Set the required range and file-splitting behavior.
- Run a manual export and inspect the result on a computer.
The current manual includes touch and external triggers. Range selection may refer to files, while output splitting can use dates or row counts; customized file handling also affects the result. Read the fields shown for your model instead of assuming “one file” always means “one day.” EasyBuilder Pro V6.10.01, Chapter 13, pages 13-187–13-191.
After the manual export works, automate the same verified operation. Separate the stages: close the production period, capture its final record, complete the applicable storage step, then export. Triggering sampling and backup simultaneously can create a race over the final row.

Häufig gestellte Fragen
No. File grouping organizes records; production totals still require defined counting logic. Use completed-period totals or a valid opening-to-closing counter difference, with reset and rollover handling. A midnight file boundary may also differ from the factory’s production-day boundary.
On supported configurations, yes. Check the exact HMI series, driver and EasyBuilder Pro version. Where direct non-contiguous sampling is unavailable, Weintek describes collecting values into an intermediate HMI memory block before sampling them. Validate freshness and consistency when using that approach.
That can be the expected native history format for a cMT application. Use the supported Backup configuration to export CSV. Renaming a .db file to .csv does not convert its contents.
Do not assume so. A value that changed while disconnected cannot be reconstructed from its current value alone. Retain critical production snapshots or event records at the source, and define how they will be retrieved after reconnection. Test how the HMI marks or handles unavailable data in the deployed project.
CSV generation and transfer involve more than copying a small register block. WeintekUSA notes that performance depends on system load and suggests investigating file splitting for large exports. Test a representative logging period, export only the required range, and avoid promising a fixed transfer time without measurements.

Test the end of the day before relying on it
A useful acceptance test includes more than checking whether a file exists:
| Test | Evidence to inspect |
|---|---|
| Known production run | Exported totals match the controller’s completed-period values |
| Shift or date rollover | Final record appears once and belongs to the correct production period |
| Communication interruption | Missing or stale data is identifiable, rather than silently accepted |
| Missing storage device | Warning and recovery behavior match the design |
| Planned HMI restart | Retained history and pending production records behave as intended |
| CSV retrieval | File opens with correct timestamps, units, columns and final rows |
Keep the HMI clock, PLC time references and reporting convention consistent. If a shift spans midnight, retain an explicit production-date or shift field instead of relying only on the sample timestamp.
For supported cMT X panels, Weintek provides Safe USB / SD Removal from EasyBuilder Pro V6.10.01.217, subject to the required HMI OS version. Use the supported removal workflow and wait for its safe-removal indication; a completed-looking screen does not prove that background writes have finished.
When selecting a panel for a new logging application, give Kwoco the PLC protocol, required fields, sampling interval, retention period and export destination alongside the screen-size requirement. Those details help define the hardware requirements.
